Bronze Chiengsaen Yunnan–style Buddha
A rare bronze seated Buddha done in the early Yunnan-influenced style, from Chiengsaen, Thailand. The face is serene, the hair done in elaborate raised twists. The chest is full. The right hand is in the earth-touching gesture and the left hand is in the lap in the position associated with meditative contemplation. Recovered from the ancient city of Chiengsaen, which was devastated by earthquakes and fires. This bronze shows evidence of such exposure but is in good condition. Excellent green patina.
Mounted on a stepped display base. (Buddha Pamphlet #12)
From: Chiengsaen, Northern Thailand, circa 15th century or earlier.
Height: 14.9 inches (37.8 cm.)
