Seated bronze Dwaravati-style Buddha
This charming bronze casting depicts a Buddha seated in half-lotus posture, both hands raised to just below his chest in a gesture of blessing and empowerment. The head is large, the Mon-type face wide and the expression smiling and introspective. The hair is done in a series of large "snail"-formed curls. The entire surface is covered with green encrusted patina. (Buddha Pamphlet #16)
From the later Dwaravati culture, Thailand, circa 10th/11th century or earlier.
Height: 8.25 inches (21 cm.)
