Seated Gilded Bonpo Buddha
A rare Tibetan gilded copper casting of Shen-rab, the Bon-po (pre-Buddhist culture in Tibet) Buddha. Seated in lotus posture on a high double lotus throne, both hands are in the lap in the meditation gesture. The chest is embossed with an "Om" symbol and a swastika (the solar symbol of the Bonpo) is over the right shoulder. Nice patina from use.
From Tibet, circa 16th to 17th century.
