Sukhothai Bronze Seated Buddha
An excellent coppery bronze casting of a classic Sukhothai Buddha. He is seated in half-lotus posture, the right hand in "earth-witness" gesture, the left hand in the lap. The hair is done in tight curls, surmounted by a tall flame, signifying Enlightenment. Nice natural patina. Similar to a well published example, height 28.5 cm., in the National Museum, Bangkok. (Buddha Pamphlet #13)
From the Sukhothai culture, Thailand, circa 14th/15th century.
Height: 13.1 inches (33.3 cm.)
