Early Chinese Medicine Buddha

This rare bronze casting depicts the Buddha standing on a lotus podium. He is draped with robes reminiscent of the Gandhara style. His hair is piled on top of his head and he has his right hand raised and the left hand holds a medicinal flask. This is a medicine Buddha, associated with rites of healing. Nice surface patina. This remarkably early bronze Buddha is very similar to a larger gilded Bodhisattva image (Ht: 33.3 cm.) attributed to Sanyuanxian, Fujii Yurinkan, Kyoto, 4th century.
This example is unquestionably of the same general style and era. (Buddha Pamphlet #2)

From China or possibly Japan, circa 5th century.
Height: 5.2 inches (13.2 cm.)
