Indian Pink Stone Lion
An excellent pink sandstone carving of a seated lion. He sits on his haunches, his tongue out and teeth showing. Most likely one of a pair of guardian animals to a royal temple. Well sculpted and in excellent condition, the surface naturally aged and smooth.
From the Gupta era, Mathura region, Central India, circa 5th/6th century AD.
Height: 15.5 inches (39.4 cm.).
