Lower Torso of a Yakshi

An exquisite pink sandstone sculpture of the lower part of a torso of a woman – probably a yakshi “tree spirit” or courtesan, wearing an elaborate belt, drapery and anklets. Sculpted from pinkish Mathura stone.
From Faizabad, U.P., India, Kushana era, circa 1st to 2nd century AD.
Height: 23 inches (58.4 cm.)

Reference details:
There is an almost identical reference sculpture, a complete Standing Female Figure, probably a Yakshi. From the Kushana period, Mathura, circa 1st–2nd century AD, recovered from the site of Deskali, near Faizabad, height 98.2 cm.
Now in the collection of the Bharat Kala Bhavan, Benares, India.
