Magar Guardian Figure with large flat-topped head
An unusually large old wood carving from the Magar tribe of Western Nepal, depicting a squatting Guardian Figure or Protector with both hands raised and brought together under the chin. The Magar tribe is shamanistic and such figures were normally kept in shrines, houses or springs, to represent protective spirits to whom sacrifices were made.
