Magar tribal carving of a standing praying Guardian Figure
An unusual old carved wood Guardian Figure or Village Protector from the Magar shamanistic culture of West Nepal. The figure stands frontally, the legs slightly bent and both hands brought together and raised up as if in prayer. The head is large, rounded and with the brow accented. The features are chiseled into an intense expression and slightly smiling mouth. The chin is rounded. Naturally aged surface with evidence of offerings. Such figures were commonly placed by springs or in houses, to act as guardians and protectors. (TR009)
